OPENING DAY SANDBLAST
July 1
Launch the season with an action-packed celebration. The charismatic Pirates of Puget Sound will storm the Jetty in time to assist with our flag raising ceremony at 11:30a.m. The entertainment will include a demonstration of traditional pirate skills and folklore, followed by a treasure hunt. Good luck beating the pirates to their treasure, all buried deep in the sand of Jetty Island. Finders, keepers!

HARBOR CRUISE
July 4, 11, 25, Aug. 1, 8, 22, 29, Sept. 5; 10-11 a.m.
Enjoy Everett from a different point of view. Discuss marine wildlife and Everett history with a Jetty naturalist as you tour the city’s harbor and Port Gardner Bay. Space is limited, so please call for reservations at 425-257-8304 starting April 1, 2010.

PORT OF EVERETT HARBOR CRUISE
July 18, Aug. 15; 10-11 a.m.
June 23, 30, Sept. 8;  6:30-8p.m.
Zoom in for a close-up look at the comings and goings of Everett’s working waterfront. During these harbor tours, Port of Everett staff showcase the Port’s roles in international trade, property development, boating, recreation and environmental stewardship. Two pre-season and one post-season extended tours have been added for 2010. Come see for yourself!  Space is limited, so please call for reservations at the Jetty Kiosk at 425-257-8304 starting April 1, 2010.
 
SUNSET HARBOR CRUISE
July 3, 9, 17, 23, 31, Aug. 6, 14, 20, 28, Sept. 3; 7-8 p.m.
Experience our purple mountains’ majesty as you watch the sun get ready to set over the Olympic Mountains and Port Gardner Bay. Enjoy discussions with a Jetty naturalist on this popular, free cruise. It always fills up fast! Call now for reservations at 425-257-8304.

PUPPET SHOWS
Mondays 2:15 p.m.
The smallest sailors and mermaids love to follow the adventures of Charlie Seagull, L.C. Salmon, Ollie and Olivia Octopus, and their friends. Pack a lunch and make a day of it!

NATURE CRAFTS
Sundays 2-3 p.m.
Children can experience the beauty of nature as art, while making their own treasures to take home. Bring a friend!

JETTY INTERPRETIVE NATURE WALKS
Daily 12:15 p.m. & 3:15 p.m.

Explore the island with a Jetty naturalist as your guide. Ask questions and get answers about wildlife, flora and geology on these twice-daily, 45-minute interpretive walks.   

HUG A BUG

Insects are everywhere! Look closely and meet and learn about the life cycles of the most interesting bug species that call our little island home.

SHARKS!
July 3; 2-3p.m.
July 8, 15, Aug. 9, 18, 25, 31; 11a.m.-noon

Take a bite out of shark phobia as we hunt for the truth about these ancient and misunderstood predators.

PLANKTON NET
July 5, Aug. 3, 16, 30; 11a.m.-noon
July 10; 2-3p.m.

Gaze into the microscopic world that forms the basis of our food chain. Let a microscope introduce you to the bizarre plant and animal species that float and swim alongside you in the sea. Ages 10+.

A WHALE OF A TIME
July 9, 20, 27, Aug. 2, 23, Sept. 2; 11a.m.-noon
Get the facts about the whales of Puget Sound, especially the gentle gray whales. Discover what they eat and how they sound, and learn when they travel through our area and how to spot them.

SALMON AND FRIENDS
July 7, 19, Aug. 17; 11a.m.-noon
The oceans are home to many amazing fish species. Some of them like to visit Jetty Island as much as we do! Get to know these important and endangered fishes as you have fun playing our salmon game.

TIDES TALK
July 12, 28; 11a.m.-noon
Ever wonder why the oceans move the way they do? Find out how it all works as we listen to the wisdom of our planet in this new class.

TRACKS
July 13, 26, Aug. 5, 10, 19; 11a.m.-noon
Follow  footprints through the sand and mud for a glimpse at some of the Jetty’s most rarely-seen animal residents and visitors. Remember your visit by making a cast of your favorite print.

SURVIVOR ISLAND
July 14, 21, Aug. 11, 24; 11a.m.-noon
It may not be a jungle out here, but the Jetty is a wild place to live. Could you survive a week on the island? How about a month or more? Join this fun, adventurous class and go home with a new set of survival skills. Suggested ages: 8-15.

2-ON-2 BEACH VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT
July 17; 11a.m.-7p.m.
Score big fun as we serve up two-on-two women’s, men’s and co-ed tournaments on Jetty Island’s incredible sand. This amateur event will start with round-robin play to determine the top four teams in each division. A short, single elimination round will yield the champions. It’s your turn to be a legend! To sign up, call the Kiosk at 425-257-8304.

GRAB A CRAB
July 23, Aug. 21; 4-5p.m.
Experience the Jetty’s rich crab life first as a scientist, then as a diner. Learn about, observe, catch and taste the Dungeness and other crab species that live in and around Port Gardner Bay.

JETTY ISLAND GEOCACHE CHALLENGE
July 31; noon-3p.m.
It’s a modern-day treasure hunt and a game of hide-and-seek all in one! Join in the fun of geocaching – a popular recreation game that uses GPS and other navigational tools to hide and find containers filled with trinkets. Test your luck and skills on the Jetty’s individual or group/family course.

SENIOR DAY
Aug. 4; 11a.m.-2p.m.
Rejuvenate your senses with a day at the beach! Enjoy a day of special activities for seniors, including nature walks, Jetty Bingo and refreshments. Bring along a lunch, a hat, an umbrella and sunglasses.

GET A NEW VIEW
Aug. 4, 27; 11a.m.-noon
Wild animals have special adaptations that allow them to see farther, focus faster and notice movement better than humans. Learn some of these techniques and combine them with character traits of either predator or prey. Soon you’ll see the world in a different way – you’ll get a new view!

SAND CASTLE CONTEST
Aug. 14; Noon-3 p.m.
Create a castle fit for a king, a crab or even yourself! Bring buckets, scoops and other tools to compete for prizes against some of the region’s most serious sand sculptors. Or simply experience the joy of digging and building! All ages welcome for group or individual participation.

FRESH PAINT FLOAT FIND

Aug. 21; 10:30a.m.
Hunt for your very own blown-glass treasure! Collect a glass float and take it back ashore to the Fresh Paint Festival at Marina Village for a certificate of authenticity.

CLOSING ACTIVITIES
Sept. 6; noon-4p.m.
Say goodbye to summer and the Jetty with a celebration of good stewardship in the form of our annual Trash Bash! We’ll leave the Jetty cleaner than we found it. Smokey Bear will be on hand to check our progress and our local Scout troop color guard will lower the flags for our closing celebration.
